SERDANG, May 30 – Two former national badminton players, Iskandar Zulkarnain and Hafiz Hashim, have advised those who want to succeed in sports to work hard towards their goal and not give up.

Both of them shared their experiences, tips, and techniques of playing badminton at the community sports programme, Aktif Bersama Sifu 3.0 (Badminton) (ABS 3.0), held online. The programme was organised by the Sports Secretariat of the College Representative Council (MPK), Tun Dr. Ismail College, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), in collaboration with the Student Affairs Divison, UPM. This programme was the third in its series.

Iskandar said players need to plan their strategy and decipher the opponent’s movements wisely.

“My advice for those who would like to get acquainted with badminton is not to give up easily and continue to learn and identify their weaknesses and overcome them,” he said.

Hafiz shared his challenge when undergoing high-intensity training in preparation for participating in international tournaments, hoping those who venture into sport exercise regularly.

“They need to stay active and not give up easily,” he said. The programme received an encouraging response, with over 2,000 views recorded.

Advisor to the sports secretariat who is also the programme advisor, Assoc. Professor Dr. Yap Wing Fen said the programme could significantly impact a person, and the knowledge imparted could boost an individual’s spirit to participate in sports, raising the quality of sports in the country.

“I hope the programme as such can motivate everyone to stay fit and active despite the new norms,” he said.

Programme Director, Falah Aidil Zainal Abidin, who is also the Vice President of the KTDI MPK Sports Secretariat, said he was very proud and excited because the programme had become a phenomenon to the audience since ABS 1.0 and ABS 2.0.

“We are always trying to think of different initiatives to run the programme with better quality and more interestingly during this pandemic in efforts to captivate the audience,” he said.

The first segment began with a briefing from Sifu Amirul and Sifu Farah on the game's tactics for the singles category. They also shared about racket holding and shot techniques.

In the next segment, Sifu Maruth and Sifu Muliani explained the doubles and mixed doubles strategies and ways to overcome misunderstandings between partners during a tournament. – UPM
