Jonathan, Saritha crowned UPM sportsman, sportswoman 2016

SERDANG, May 16 - National shooter, Jonathan Wong Guangjie and archer, Saritha Cham Nong were crowned Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) sportsman and sportswoman 2016.

They both received RM2, 000, a watch, jacket, certificate and trophy.


Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof Dato Dr. Husaini Omar presented the awards at the 33rd UPM Sports Awards 2017 here. Jonathan was represented by his father Wong Chee Young, while Saritha by her father, Cham Nong.

Jonathan who took part in the 2016 Rio Olympic, is in South Korea for the Korea Federation Championships & Han Hwa Competition, while Saritha who won gold medal at the Asean Sports University Singapore last year is in Shanghai competing in the Asia Cup/World Qualifier.

Hockey player Syed Mohamad Syafiq Syed Cholan and sprinter Zaidatul Husniah Zulkifli were accorded the Most Promising Men and Women Award respectively.

Other awards presented were Inter College Sports Tournament (SUKOL) Award and Special Award.

Also present were Head of UPM Sports Centre, Dr Hanafiah Ayub; UPM Registrar, Dato’ Wan Azman Wan Omar; Ministry of Higher Education Sports Divison secretary, Col. Associate (PA) Hazaly Jali; Ministry of Higher Education Chief Assistant Secretary Sports Division, Tony Azman Hassan and Chairman of Board Principal, Prof. Dr. Mohd Roslan Sulaiman.
