WAZAN gave out RM20,000 to help 400 UPM students return home For Eid-Fitr


SERDANG, May 25 - Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Centre for Management of Waqf, Zakat and Endowment allocated RM20,000 to sponsor nine buses to send 400 UPM asnaf students to their hometowns throughout the peninsular.

The special programme, JOM BALIK RAYA with WAZAN, saw the release of a nine-bus convoy by UPM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datin Paduka Dato’ Dr. Aini Ideris at 9.00 am here.

"On behalf of the university, I wish a safe journey to our students who are returning home to be with their loved ones for the Eid celebration. I pray the journey is smooth and that they arrive at their destinations safely", she said.

Also present were the Director of WAZAN UPM, Dr. Hj. Razali Othman, head of Asnaf Zakat and Development Management Section, Ustaz Zuhaimi Abdul Rahim and head of Knowledge Fund Management Section, UPM, Ustaz Nuruliman Ibrahim.

Muhammad Faiz, a student who will be returning to Sungai Petani, said that it was a very good programme and should be held every Ramadan.

“I feel touched by the various financial assistance provided by WAZAN UPM for underprivileged students, especially the asnaf," he said.

Another student, Wan Noratikah, who will be returning to Pasir Mas, said the programme helped to reduce the cost of transportation for many students as well as facilitated their travel arrangements.
