SERDANG – About 100 Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) students participated in the healthy ride, ‘Putrabike Fun Ride UPM 2017’ in a 5-kilometre course within the UPM campus area recently.

It was organised by the Volunteer Secretariat and Community Network, Kolej Sultan Alaeddin Suleiman Shah (KOSASS) UPM in collaboration with Koperasi UPM Berhad (KUPUTRA).

Cycling is a healthy lifestyle whereby it improves the blood circulation and increases body vitality.

The Programme Director, Muhammad Afif Zawawi Adnan, said the programme was aimed to create awareness to students about the importance of maintaining the body vitality at an optimum level.

“I hope this programme will continue in the future,” he said, as he conveys his gratitude to the college management and Koperasi UPM Berhad for supporting the activity.

Accompanying them in the bicycle ride was the Principal of Kolej Sultan Alaeddin Suleiman Shah, Lieutenant Colonel Othman Jailani and Chairman of Koperasi UPM Berhad, Dr. Darilsyah Syahrial.  

One of the participants, Nadia Nadzirah Aminuddin, 18, said, the ride has provided her with an exciting new experience.

“Besides being able to do beneficial activities that are also environmentally friendly, I am confident that this programme is able to help us to lead a healthy lifestyle,” she said.

This activity is also in direct response to UPM’s vision for a green campus.

UPM, known as the ‘Green Campus’, ranked world’s top 17th in UI-Greenmetric World University Ranking 2015 based on the campus sustainability’s effort and effective environmental management.

The success shows UPM’s commitment in preserving the environment through various learning activities, research, co-curriculum and quality management system which was based on a sustainable and efficient environmental management.
