200 undergraduates participate in Rakan Muda Orienteering Obstacle Challenge

By: Rizal Razak

SERDANG, 23 Oct – More than 200 undergraduates took part in Rakan Muda Orienteering Obstacle Challenge Green Campus held in conjunction with Agriculture Expo and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) 40th Convocation recently.

UPM Rakan Muda secretariat adviser, Rizal Razak said the participation of undergraduates in co-curriculum programme such as recreational sports will add value to themselves.

“Currently, employers are against passive graduates, so, they will offer job opportunities to skillful graduates with strong self-confidence and who are active in co-curriculum activities,” he said.

Meanwhile, the five-kilometer recreational sports contest required participants, using a compass and a map, to find several control points placed in certain spots which came with challenges and other hurdles they must solve.

The two-day programme was handled by UPM Rakan Muda Secretariat, with the cooperation of Student Affairs Division and University Agriculture Park (TPU), and supported by the Youth and Sports Ministry and Civil Defense Department (APM).

Two categories were contested – UPM Inter-colleges and UPM Open which offered a cash prize of between RM100 and RM250 while the first 40 other participants who reached the finish point were given a medal and a certificate of participation.

The prizes were presented by Youth and Sports Ministry Rakan Muda Division Potential Development Branch Director, Sabran Abd Bahar. - UPM
