37 kids of UPM staff feted to ‘Semarak PUTRA Ramadan’ programme

SERDANG, July 9 –  Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) recently feted the orphans and the disabled who are children of 37 UPM staff to a Semarak PUTRA Ramadan programme here.

Communications and Strategic Corporate Office (CoSComm) Deputy Director Prof. Dr. Mansor Ahmad @ Ayob said the programme involved university students and staff who were assisted by UPM Pusat Tanggungjawab.

“This programme helps to foster strong camaraderie among staff and students besides instilling positive personality traits and self-identity which can be exemplary for future generations,” he said.

Meanwhile, CoSComm staff, Zarina Ismail said this was her first experience as a volunteer in the programme to help the orphans who were children of UPM staff to choose and buy Raya clothes.

“The happy and smiling faces of the orphans who were given the opportunity to buy new Raya clothes themselves really made me happy as I was able to help them in one way or another, although I was not able to do so financially,” she said.

Maryam Ahmad Nainy said the programme, the first time to have been held by UPM, had directly eased her financial burden of having to buy Raya clothes for her daughter, Nur Afryna Lyana.

“As a single mother in this trying and challenging economic condition, I have to be prudent. This contribution comes in handy for me during this festive occasion. I am thankful to UPM for the help and I really hope that the programme can be continued in the future,” she said.

Prior to the event, UPM launched the programme which was graced by Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mohd Fauzi Ramlan on July 9.

Other related programmes held included singgah sahur at the Putra Perdana Orphanage hosted by CoSComm with the cooperation of UPM Sports Welfare Club of the UPM Registrar Office.

Besides that, UPM Agriculture Faculty together with UPM Alumni Centre feted orphans from Sekolah Darul Fuqaha dan Pusat Jagaan anak-anak yatim/miskin Rukaiyah during the closing ceremony of Inkubasi Usahawantani on June 26 – UPM.
