HLAF Foundation offers four scholarships for PhD and postdoctoral programmes at

Serdang , Feb 26 (UPM) - Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM ) and a local-based foundation, Human Life Advancement Foundation (HLAF), have inked an agreement to offer four scholarships for Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and postdoctoral programmes at UPM.

UPM Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Dr. Mohd Fauzi Ramlan, said the agreement with HLAF offers four scholarships worth USD15,000 and USD35,000 a year to those who are interested in pursuing PhD or postdoctoral programmes at the university.

"Scholarships are offered not only for PhD programmes in the country but also open to international graduate collaborative programmes at UPM with University of Sheffield (Joint PhD Degree), University of Nottingham (Dual PhD Degree) , University of Newcastle Australia (Joint PhD Degree) and Kyushu Institute of Technology ( Dual PhD Degree)," he said.

He added that the agreement with HLAF is important to strengthen UPM efforts in attracting more graduate students and PhD holders to come to the university.



“This will not only diversify the sources of funding for students but also encourage more active involvement in research activities that have an impact and commercial value, also to increase income for the university and the country," he said.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Prof. Dato' Dr. Mohd Fauzi and Junaidi Said, HLAF CEO.

Also present at the ceremony were HLAF Head of the Forum, Prof. Asif Sabanovic, HLAF Advisor, Hasan Cengic , UPM Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and International), Prof. Datuk Dr. Mad Nasir Shamsuddin and UPM School of Graduate Studies Dean, Prof. Dr. Bujang Kim Huat .

HLAF is an international non-profit organization, launched on March 27, 2013 with the aim of bridging the gap between developed and developing countries, in the aspects of technological development and innovation through knowledge sharing and technology transfer.

HLAF patron is the Malaysia's fourth Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, who is also one of the three members of the Board of Trustees, appointed by the foundation that is based at Menara Dato' Onn, Putra World Trade Centre. - UPM
