SERDANG, Jan 22 – A total of 17 first-year students from the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in collaboration with the Physics Student Club (KMF) has held the “I Can See Your Wave 3.0” programme online.

The programme was an adaptation of a popular reality TV show. It was fully managed by the first-year students and conducted online for viewing by the public and UPM members, with views reaching 2,100 on Facebook Live.

The programme aimed to provide opportunities especially for first-year students to manage programmes at UPM while strengthening relationships amongst first-year students even in a virtual learning environment.

Programme adviser, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yap Wing Fen, said discussions and preparations of the programme were carried out entirely online without any face-to-face meeting.

Two lecturers from the Faculty of Science, Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim Mohamed Tahir and Dr. Norhazlin Zainuddin, were invited as panellists. Second-year Bachelor of Science (Honours) Major in Physics student, Nur Fadhlil Wafi Nor Alihan, was invited as a guest singer to jazz up the programme.

The programme was conducted by two hosts, Rusdyana Natasa Ghazali, a student of Bachelor of Science (Honours) Major in Physics, and Natasya Syamsol, a student of Bachelor of Science (Honours) Major in Material Science.

Six first-year students from the Department of Physics participated in the programme “I Can See Your Wave 3.0” as mystery singers. Four of them were students of Bachelor of Science (Honours) Major in Physics  - Nurul Syahirah Shahrol Nizam, Nur Atiqah Azmiera  Azmi, Muhammad Nazirul Mubin Bakhtiar Tuah and Muhammad Syafi Haziq Mohd, and two were students of Bachelor of Science with Education (Honours) Major in Physics, Muhammad Safuan  Zamir and Mohamad Farid  Rozali.

The interesting performances by the mystery singers appealed to the hearts of the audience who watched on Facebook Live. The audience and two panellists provided assistance and feedback to the guest singer to help eliminate mystery singers who were not real singers.

After elimination in each round, the guest singer was finally able to choose Nur Atiqah Azmiera Azmi, a student of Bachelor of Science (Honours) Major in Physics, as a duet partner in the final round. She was one of the real singers of the programme.

Nur Atiqah Azmiera said she did not think such a programme could be carried out in the current situation.

"I am fortunate to be involved in such a programme and hope to continue showcasing my talent. I also hope to represent UPM in the future,” she said.

Director of I Can See Your Wave 3.0, Muhammad Syafi Haziq Mohd Fauzi, said although learning is done online, first-year students could get to know one another.

“The COVID-19 pandemic is not an obstacle for us in strengthening our relationship and getting to know one another,” he said. - UPM
