SERDANG, 21 Dec – Various international cultures and foods were exhibited and introduced to the public and students during the International Cultural Festival (ICF) that took place here.

The programme, organised by Universiti Putra Malaysia International Student Association (UPMISA), aimed to boost the value of multicultural togetherness among students and the public.

‘Cultural in the Digital World’ was chosen as the theme for the fourth-running festival. The festival was held at the Main Hall, Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Arts and Cultural Centre (PKKSSAAS), UPM.

The Director of ICF 2017, Athaya Shankya who is also the Director of UPMISA Cultural and Arts said that there were 11 exhibition booths which promoted cultures and foods of various countries such as Indonesia, Gambia, Somalia, Pakistan, Algeria, Oman, Libya, Nigeria and Bangladesh.

“It is hoped that the organisation of the programme would foster the spirit of integrity and open up opportunities for foreign students to promote the delicacies of their countries apart from introducing Malaysian local foods to international students,” she said.

ICF 2017 also collaborated with the National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM) in  giving free medical check-ups and consultation service to the public in order to instil awareness of early cancer prevention.

The programme was also attended by the Vice Chancellor of UPM, Prof Datin Paduka Dato’ Dr. Aini Ideris, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) Prof. Dr. Mohd Roslan Sulaiman, Iraqi Ambassador to Malaysia, Hassan Mohsen Al-Haydary and Gambian Ambassador to Malaysia, Ramzia Diab. - UPM
