SERDANG – The role of universities is not only confined to the creation and dissemination of knowledge but also in ensuring that each and every graduate could fulfil the present needs of the industry,  Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Vice-Chancellor,  Prof. Datin Paduka Dr. Aini Ideris said.

Towards this, she said UPM always strived for opportunities and new areas to establish university-industry-community collaborations as to complement each other.

“UPM accepts ideas and views of the industry as well as the community to enhance its study syllabi while formulating or updating students’ co-curriculum to be in line with the demands of the industry,” she said in her speech at UPM Industry and Community Appreciation event (ICAN 2017) held in appreciation of the contributions made by industrial partners and communities and award presentation for high-impact industry and community network programme, here. The event was organized by The Office of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Industry and Community Network).

At the function, a book on Industry-Community Engagement A University Framework (Second Edition) was launched. The book highlighted current social problems faced by the country, identified through social studies by UPM researchers and for relevancy in conducting university-level industry and community network activities.
