KILAUAN PUTRA 2015 fosters culture of 60s to 90s songs among Generation Y

SERDANG, March 15 - For the first time, Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Cultural and Arts Centre (PKKSSAAS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) organised a singing competition, Kilauan Putra 2015, as an effort to cultivate appreciation of 60s to 90s Malay songs among generation Y. PKKSSAAS Director, Haji Anuar Ahmad, said the programme was to revive nostalgic 60s to 90s Malay songs era among the youth community. "Youth, consisting of UPM students as well as other community members have the opportunity to show off their talents, besides filling their free time with useful things.



"Competition like this can also discipline the contestants as they perpare for their performances, at the same time people can enjoy the music besides encouraging them to be emotionally balanced, creative and innovative," he said during the closing ceremony of the programme.

The two-day competition, beginning March 14 was divided into two categories; Kilauan Putra 2015 (open), participated by 30 contestants from non-governmental organisations (NGOs), Public and Private Higher Education Institutions, local community members and local authority staff, while Inter-College Kilauan Putra 2015 was competed by 20 UPM students.

Muhammad Hasif Mansor from Tenth College emerged champion in the Inter-College Kilauan Putra category, runner up was won by Mohammad Aizat Luffi Jailani from 14th College, while Nur Alyssa Roslan from fifth College won the third place.

Muhammad Aiman​​ Che Omar from 17th College and Muhammad Shafiq Farhann Boo Omar from Chancellor College received consolation prizes.



Meanwhile, for Kilauan Putra 2015 open category, Muhammad Shafiq Ikhwan Ghazali from Puncak Alam triumphed champion, Mus Ahmad from Kuala Lumpur grabbed the second place and Nur Farrah Izzatie Johari from Seremban won the third. Each winner took home a cash prize of RM800, RM500, RM300, a trophy and certificate presented by UPM Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Mad Nasir Shamsudin. Local artists, Fauzi Marzuki, Nash Lefthanded and Datuk Ramli MS were specially invited as guest jury in the competition.


The event also featured performances by Kilauan Putra second season’s winner, Fuad and was hosted by Momo Rajalawak and Nas, Kilauan Emas season four contestant. In addition, Prof. Datuk Dr. Mad Nasir, Head of Music Department, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Joanne Yeoh Pei Sze and PKKSSAAS staff also made a special performance at the event.
