UPM–USSH strengthen collaboration in social science & humanity studies

Ho Chi Minh – Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Social Sciences & Social Humanities (USSH) Vietnam. This inaugural MoU is aimed at strengthening collaboration in social sciences and humanity studies between the two universities.

The pact which covers the exchange of academic staff and students programmes, research collaboration, exchange of scientific materials, publications and knowledge, was signed here on 17 October 2013 by Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd Fauzi Ramlan, the Vice Chancellor of UPM, and Prof. Dr. Vo Van Sen, the President of USSH.

The MoU came about after the establishment of a project called  Developing a Student Development Index (SDI): Comparative Evidences from Cambodia, Vietnam and Malaysia.

The project for Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia and Vietnam (CLMV) has been put under the scrutiny of Ministry of Education (MoE), Higher Education Research Institute, Universiti Sains Malaysia, and the Centre for Entrepreneurial and Graduate Marketability (CEM) of UPM.



The good rapport between CEM and USSH started with the first visit of CEM’s director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zulhamri Abdullah, who is also the project leader, to USSH in March 2013.

USSH is one of the oldest national universities in Vietnam and it was established since 1957. It is one of the biggest universities that mainly focuses on social science and humanity studies. Its learning activities and programmes, researches and expansion of knowledge are governed by the global interdependence concept.

USSH is located in South Vietnam and provides training and scientific research centres at two campuses located in District 1 and Thu Duc District. Currently, it has 18 faculties and offers 53 bachelor, 33 masters and 13 PhD programmes, consist of 34,000 students. Of the total number of students, 32,000 are taking their bachelors, 1800 masters and 200 PhDs.
