“Planting Is Fun" to instil love for greenery among kids

KAJANG, Nov 25 - The Faculty of Forestry, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), organized a community programme, called "Planting Is Fun" at Q-dees Hillpark Kindergarten, here, aimed at instilling love for trees and the greenery among kindergarteners, aged four to six.

The programme, under the guidance of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rozi Mohamed, was carried out by 12 students from the Forestry Faculty.

The kindergarteners were given a briefing on ways to plant the trees correctly.

A total of 10 types of plants, including merawan siput jantan, karas, jambu madu (honey guava), meranti daun besar, lengkuas padi and gandar lusa were planted within the compound of the kindergarten.

UPM students also put up a short presentation to foster awareness on the importance of trees to the environment and animals.

The activities proved to be an attraction for the kids.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rozi said love for the environment and greenery should be instilled among children since young to create a society that really cares and places importance on the welfare and sustainability of the environment. – UPM
