SERDANG - About 150 pathology experts and postgraduate students of medical pathology and dermatology have attended the National Dermatopathology Workshop: Skin Adnexal Tumour Melanocytic & Cutaneous Lymphoma, recently.

The objective of the workshop was to discuss the branches of Skin Adnexal Tumour, Melanocytic Lesion & Cutaneous Lymphoma.

The workshop was held at the Teaching Hospital, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and was jointly organised with the International Academic of Pathology (IAPMD), Malaysian Division.

It was officiated by Prof. Dr. Zamberi Sekawi, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UPM.

Dermatopathology is one of the medical branches for skin diseases. In Malaysia, this field is yet to be explored widely and of the 180 histopathologists in Malaysia, there are only three dermatopathology experts at the moment.

According to the organiser statement, given that dermatopathology is still considered as an unchartered area, and since dermatopathology workshops are uncommon in Malaysia compared to other pathological disciplines, this workshop in particular, is important to discuss the new diagnoses under the WHO Classification of Skin Tumours, Fourth Edition, 2018.

"With the availability of this workshop, the participants will be able to gain basic concepts and systemic approaches as well as latest updates in diagnosing Skin Adnexal Tumour, Melanocytic Lesion & Cutaneous Lymphoma cases," said in the statement. - UPM
