TRADEC’16 and iKEKWA 1.0 help to create entrepreneurs among undergraduates

SERDANG, Sept 19 – Shaick Shaifullah Jehangir Ali, a Final Year student of Bachelor of Consumer Studies, Human Ecology Faculty, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), emerged champion in the Trading Entrepreneurship Challenge (TRADEC’16).

Shaick Shaifullah, 23, triumphantly won TRADEC’16 through his company, Ombak Printing Services. He received a business grant of RM1,800 and a tour package to Guangzhao, China.

Another programme, Women Economic Entrepreneurship Integration (iKEKWA 1.0) held for the first time, was won by Aula Atikah Radzizuan. She received a business grant of RM1,500 and a tour package to Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam.

Both TRADEC’16  dan iKEKWA 1.0 programmes organized by UPM’s University Community Transformation Centre (UCTC) were held at L’Apprenti Café, Golf UPM.

UPM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datin Paduka Dr. Aini Ideris, said manifestation of  entrepreneurship agenda in higher learning institutions is measured through various key achievement indicators such as numbers and the impact of students’ involvement in activities.

She added that it also involved entrepreneurship learning and an increase in the number of competent academic manpower with expertise in the field of entrepreneurship studies.

Also present were Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Industry and Community Network), Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ir. Renuganth Varatharajoo and UCTC Director, Assoc. Prof. Dr.Hawa ZE Jaafar.

The main objective of TRADEC’16 is to produce capable entrepreneurs in trade amongst undergraduates and to enhance the strategic network between university undergraduates, universities and industries through business ventures.

Meanwhile, Ikekwa 1.0 is aimed at improving small- and medium-sized entrepreneurship industries involving women entrepreneurs from the aspects of promotion and marketing, and to upgrade the economic status of households through entrepreneurship activities among the fairer gender. – UPM.
