UPM – CIDBH working on setting up National Green Building Technology

SERDANG, March 1 – The Faculty of Design and Architecture (FRSB), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), is collaborating with CIDB Holdings Sdn. Bhd. (CIDBH) to pave the way for a research to establish a Centre of Excellence (COE) for the development of sustainable township and national green technology.

UPM FRSB Dean, Associate Prof. Dr. Osman Mohd. Tahir said the collaboration aimed at strengthening Research Strategic Thrust and Development in Construction Industry Transformation Program (CITP) 2016-2025 was also targeted at setting up a national-level COE.



“Besides, such a move will encourage greater collaboration between academicians and the industry in the teaching of human resource for capacity development training and manpower programmes as well as R&D for the development of sustainable municipality,” he said at the launching of FRSB 2016-2020 Strategic Plans, STEdex’15/16 exhibition and exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UPM and CIDBH here.

He also said the collaboration would bring UPM to greater heights as a research university recognized for its ability in conducting sustainable research development of international standard as per the recognition of its role stated in CITP 2016-2025.

“The move is also in line with the university’s aspirations to develop new collaborations and to obtain research grants for its research activities carried out with industries,” he said.

FRSB which functions as a Centre of Responsibility, the first for UPM, is responsible in developing  FRSB 2014-2020 Strategic Plans in tandem with the missions and visions set out under UPM 2014-2020 Strategic Plans, launched by UPM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datin Paduka Dr. Aini Ideris.



 The STEdex’15/16 expo is an annual affair, featuring a wide range of products invented by UPM FRSB lecturers and students. This time around, the expo which has been held for the seventh time, focuses on research application in design practices.

It also provides a platform for the display of innovative works of international standard, a practice by universities worldwide, and to help instil research culture in the learning process. – UPM.
